I read on your website that you want to get a helicopter for Hendry County that would serve as an air ambulance as well as a law enforcement aircraft, how is that possible? An air ambulance is specifically designed to treat and transport patients who are in dire need of emergency medical attention and is not equipped for law enforcement capabilities. In addition to that the cost of one of these aircraft is staggering as well as the pilots and paramedics needed to care for the patients. How do you propose to pay for such an expenditure and where are the statistics to backup the need for such an expenditure? Lee County EMS has Med Star as well as Air 4 as a backup and I know that they had to fight for many years to get the new aircraft. How do you plan on getting this accomplished?
Mr. or Ms. Concerned,
This is what Mr. Fernandez states on his website. "I will aggressively seek grants and funding for a Life support Air Ship for the Citizens of
Hendry County." Key word "grants"
as far as Pilots there's plenty of pilots in Hendry County and in the S.O. that would be willing to fly. But your current Sheriff rather push these Deputy's and citizens away. Oh and by the way after checking the Internet. I found Dual purpose Helicopter's everywhere in this state to include all over the nation.
As stated by Raul, "I will aggressively seek grants and funding for a Life support Air Ship for the Citizens of
Hendry County." The key word here is FUNDING not grants. The grants are a gamble at best considering the considerable expense of one these aircraft. Yes, there may be many pilots in Hendry County and even within the HCSO but how many of them are trained to pilot such an aircraft and where is the money going to come from to pay them the average wage of such a pilot, because it is well above that of a standard road deputy or even a ranking officer. My point is I know what Lee County EMS paid for Med Star and the fight and time they went through to get it so I find it difficult to believe that such a task would be so easily accomplished in Hendry County, especially since the County Commission doesn't like to give any money to the Sheriff's Office for rasies much less and multi-million aircraft.
Concerned, I don't see the Helicopter being a promise but a step towards getting one. Which if I may, is more then what anyone has tried to do. The word "Seek" to search for; to try to get; to plan to do. So let's not strike out Mr. Fernandez just yet. I would like to see what he has to bring to the table.
Not attempting to seek grants or funding for a helicopter program is crazy in its self. The current mind set of Lee or Palm beach is not the answer for the people of Hendry. But I guess when the people of our great nation put thier minds together to send a rocket to the moon in the 60's that was crazy and impossible also. Trusting in God.....
